Bamboo Arrow Making Techniques

To cut a nock I first make a double wide bandsaw cut. Then using a rat tail rasp which has teeth in a spiral pattern like a drill bit, I screw the tip of the rasp COUNTER CLOCKWISE into the base of the slot adjusting for centered and squared as the rasp is slowly drilled into the slot. A counter clockwise direction avoids splitting the nock.

Then a knife slices off the remaining material and a fine jewelers file finishes the inside of the slot. Running the rat tail rasp diagonally up and down the slot files off any variation from parallel. My preference is to not have a bulge at the bottom of the slot.

The top arrow is ready to have the nock "drilled".
