cow horn?
In Canada i think it will be very easy to obtain cow hon, even highland cow horn with longer horns. Is this suitable for lightweight bows? sub 60#
Thanks

According to this book you can use horn from highland cattle:

It's in german, but I read and understand german ok (living in Denmark and german is my third language).
One of the chapters describes the process of building a bow with highland cattle horn... I think it is about 45# or so, but you could probably get away with building a bow up to around 60#.

HEARSAY: Texas longhorn should not be used on bows as it is prone to delamination
Some cow-horn I have worked with has also had a tendency to split into layers. However, in a low-stress bow i.e. wide, long and low draw weight, it shouldn't be a problem.
I wouldn't use it in a "high stacked" round belly high draw weight construction. Also, I would not glue in too much reflex between the core and horn in the bending sections.
