Here are some photo's of my latest bow. Core limbs are maple and the handle is lemonwood. I glued the splices last night and am going to be getting the horn strips fully prepared today.

3 pieces only? Core looks very good, I look forward on result...
3 pieces hornbows are historically proved. The reason for to do a 5 piece construction is availability of the raw materials and workability. It is a more delicious job to steam- bend the limbs of the wooden- core without any twist than to splice a 5 piece construction in a straight line. There is no impact on performance.

Here is the progress on my latest bow. The horn is only 3mm thick due to deep cracks in the outer surface. I think this should still be sufficient for a 60lb bow. My core is also a little thin (13mm) as this was the thickness of the maple I found at the wood yard. I may have to add a thin section of wood from the mid kasan out to the tips.[/img]
wait is that kiln dried maple that you go to bend like that!?!?
Yes it's kiln dried maple. I used the metal band around the outside of the bends to make certain no splinters lifted during bending. You have to move fast but there wasn't even a hint of any damage to the wood.
