Type of hornbow?
Hello,
I watch this forum a long time now. I would like to make a horn bow. I make traditional longbows and recurves for a few years, but never had the materials for a horn bow. I recently obtained two horns from a waterbuffalo which have a usefull length of 40 cm. I also have a lot of cow sinew and black locust. Which type of horn bow can be made with those materials? Does the core wood has to be edgegrained or conventional grained?
I hope someone who isn't tired of all those newby questions will help me out.
Thanks,
Simon

Given that your useable horn is relatively short and this is your first horn bow, I suggest that you make a bow in child's size first, and not too heavy, so that you can become accustomed to this challenging craft without worrying too much that your first effort might break. In the process, you will learn a lot that will prepare you to make a good, powerful adult bow the next time around.
