Chinese Self Bows
After reading about the article on the Chinese, late-Warring states, zhe wood longbow, I am interested in the possibility of Chinese self, and all bamboo, bows. I'm wondering how widespread they were, and whether they could match up to composite bows. I also would like to know if it is true that only bamboo bows have been found in the former state of Chu. I would like own some replica Chinese armaments, but I cannot acquire horn or sinew, so I previously thought that Chinese bows were a little out of my reach.
I'm also curious about the prods for ancient Chinese crossbows. If they were just handbows mounted on a stock in the early period, what did they later become?

I am going to Shandong in a couple of weeks to inspect excavated Chinese bows from the pre-Han period. I hope to provide a report when I return.
I have one Warring States selfbow that has been succesfully reproduced.

Stephen,
Can you tell us about the reproduction? Is there already a report on it somewhere here or on atarn.org?
