Hello all archers in the world
First, I apologize for my bad English.
This is why, I will let the images speak for me.

My first attempts to make a hard bow from mulberry tree:

Second atempt :

Horn streeps is 5 mm thick, and long 45 cm ,but only 2.5 - 3 cm wide
The horn is from domestic buffalo , and the wood is maple. I think using the same species of maple, as German archer ;i recognized same wood , from pictures posted by him.

Next week I think I will stick with hide glue. I'm not too confident in the quality of glue that I have, but I try...

traianj; I absolutely love your icons. Is this your business? Excellent. And your shooting is quite accurate. Good luck, keep up the hard work and keep us informed.

:D

Thanks for appreciation!

I paint only for monasteries and for a small group of friends.Excessive taxation does not allow me to turn pating into a business.
When I shoot to the Turkish traditional "puta" target, I was lucky. Gini ( romanien archer ,here on the forum) shoot much better than me. (But not for long.)

Traianj; You will need to hurry if you want to catch Ginni.

I like the construction of this bow. It is beginning to look like one of the Serbian bows of the warrior saints which Zoran has brought to our attention. Maybe this ties in with your interest in iconographic painting?

I painted only a bow, into an icon of Saint George. It is possible to be inspired by the bows ,we have seen on icons.
Other Sains ( soldiers) with bows : Sf. Dimitrie, Sf Artemie , Sf Mercurie, Sf Teodor Stratilat end Sf Teodor Tiron.

traianj you are an extremely talented artist.
Zoran Pavlovic
Hey Traianj,
Where this icon with bow representation came from? Is this reproduction of some original icon? I could say it is from XVth century or later time. Weird, it looks more like scythian bow though bows which appear in frescoes in Balkans show similar characteristics (tapered limbs) and pronounced angle of siyahs (not as in this icon/frescoe). I have some Romanian frescoes but these Romanian bows looks similar to Serbian or Byzantine bows.
Best regards,

p.s. i've checked your site, very nice design.
traianj
I studied about 10 reproductions of icons with St. George, and I painted something personal . Is not faithfully reproduced.
The bow is imagined by me .

I broke my bow.
:(
project closed
jack farrell
Just a small setback, sorry for that. Now show us the broken bow for a diagnosis.

The last moments of my horn bow. I want to know your opinion:Why the break ?
traianj
Scales indicate 420 grams.
jack farrell
Did you open this bow slowly? condition with tepliks? What was the shape like?
Uli
uh pain.
I see no tepeliks. it can't work without.
(also broke one like this)
Adam Karpowicz
Did the bow twist when it broke? I would not use the yew - it will be hard to cut decent laths from it.

Adam
traianj
I made a pair tepeliks, but I am still not used .I tried .

possible Causes, that led to the breaking:

ridiculously strong
Too strong and too narrow ,I exceeded the limit of resistance
Horn was not heated
Negligence in connections "V"

I have never seen a real horn bow.
traianj
Cherry wood is suitable for horn bow heart ? (question for the next project)
Fenris
Yepp it is :. It is homogeneous, elastic, medium hard and very pleasing to work with. What I don't know is the question about core wood and splint. So I would use either one or the other but would not mix them within the bow. Maybe somebody else here in the forum has some more experience with that.

Hey, that looks nice! How heavy is it? And whats the cover on the back, some kind of snake?
traianj
The bow measures roughly 80 lbs, too strong for me.
It is covered with snake skin, but I don't know what kind of species is. I hope to be dangeros snake, with venom.
