Crack on horn

Hello, the horn was flawed and cracked when I opened the bow (about 80 cm between the tips). The only reasonable thing to do is to replace the entire strip.Gluing the crack doesn't seem to me a good idea:it will need a sinew binding(ugly) and even if it holds, the horn will eventually crack in another spot, possibly ruining the bow.In the second pic are visible small signs of delamination:I had to pay more attention. What do you think? This was a potentially good bow...I'm not happy.

Best to change.

How did the silk from Uzbekistan work out?
Alessi Francesco
Hello Jack, you mean that is better to replace the strip? The silk is very nice,I made only one string and it seems to work well:it's the best natural fiber that I ever tried.Thank you again.I'm using dacron now.

Francesco; Of course change the horn. Your bows are much too nice to risk ruining with a damaged horn. Be well.

Francesco,

Where is the crack , kasan or sal?
Alessi Francesco
Hello scemdonmez, the crack is at the end of sal, just before the kasan eye.

Im agree witk Jack, change the horn. Crack place is not good. Im sure bow will be OK.

Fixed, but not finished yet.Only 70-71# @29", less than I was expecting: I reduced the amount of reflex during the glueing of the new horn strip so I had to reduce the reflex on the other limb as well (by heat).I think it'll pick up a few pounds over time...they usually do.Mass 318 grams so far.

Are you able to re-groove the core?
Alessi Francesco
I don't groove the surfaces, I just scratch lightly the wooden core lengthwise.
