  • Hello all
I'm trying to reconstruct the scythian bow. now almost finalize wood core but I feel little difficulty. I need pictures of the area of nock. I could improvise, but I want to be closest to the originals. I appreciate any help.

Pazuzu; That looks like it is going to be nice bow. Maybe the groove should be half round and each outer edge also half rounded.
PAZUZU
Jack thanks. I agree with you. cross section is not finalized. I hope soon to be ready for sinews. It is very interesting bow.
jack farrell
Keep the mass of the tips down to improve performance. The design is slightly bulky in these bows.

  • well, I finished shaping the core. I like a bit of a different form from this - with less deflex in the long limb, but will make adjustments for the next attempt. nock will finalize after sinewing. all criticism, comments and recommendations are welcome.

I agree with you about the longer limb. I look forward to seeing this one sinewed, beautiful piece of work.

WOW!!! Very nice craftsmanship. Can't wait to see the progress.

Looks to need more reflex. Remember most were put in the grave while strung so all the reflex would be missing.

Beautiful work! Don't cover it with sinew!
PAZUZU
Jack, I totally agree with you. I will make adjustments next time. Francesco, it's too late. I put the first layer of sinews

Pazuzu - what is the approximate thickness of your horn core and side pieces? Very nice work. I hope to do an all-wood Scythian.
PAZUZU
thank you
vertical horn plate is 6 mm wide. horn belly is 4.5 mm. thick

  • bow is seasoning aprox six months. I made a couple of shots to 24 inches draw lenght. behaves quite stable. needs a little heat adjustments and my question is: now have to make or after spiral wrap with sinew? also: what draw length would you recommend? bow is 103 cm. - stringing, 128 cm. - belly, 13 cm. - brace.
  • thanks

Very nice work. It may be better to make the adjustments before wrapping with sinew, since the wrapping stabilizes the bow's shape somewhat. But only if the adjustments are not too drastic.

Thank you all!
Adam, first layer sinews wrapping is completely dryed, and then put the second? or both are consistently?
Adam Karpowicz
I put the second layer after the first one dried and made sure the wraps were crossing.
