I. Aims and objectives
? Revival of ancient kind of sport, lost traditions, distribution and promotion of youth horseback ride skills and archery as a tribute to ancestors;
? to strengthen the image of Ukraine as a state that maintains and develops the ancient sports by involving the public interest, both Ukrainian and foreign to the cultural heritage of Ukraine and historically related countries;
? Increasing the historical factor for awakening in the young generation patriotism, propaganda among young healthy lifestyle by attracting to the ancient kind of sport;
? promoting the development of tourism by attracting visitors to the spectacular event from Ukraine and other countries of the world.
II. The tournament will be held
?The Kievan Rus Park?, Kopachiv village, Obuhov district, Kyiv region, Ukraine.
III. Schedule (dates of the tournament):

V. Competitors
To participate in the tournament you must be over 18 years old.
VI. Competition rules
Tournament is held according to the Competition Rules of Ancient Kiev (Kiev style). Style is described in a separate document.
VII. Participation fee
Participation fee is 50 UAH (6 USD)
VIII. Rewarding
Prizes are awarded to the winners of the tournament (the first five places), which are determined by the sum of points accumulated during 2 days of competition without consideration of night shooting points.
Separately the participants of the tournament in the following nominations: ?The Best Night Archer? (three winners), ?The Best Historical Costume?, ?The Audience Choice? are awarded.
IX. Funding
All expenses of the tournament organization are committed to the organizers.
Other expenses (food, accommodation, transfer to ?The Kievan Rus Park? and back) are committed to participants.

Rules of the International Horseback Archers? Tournament
?The Horseback Archer of Ancient Kiev I?
The Tournament is held according to the Competition Rules of Ancient Kiev (Ancient Kiev style).
The Competitions are held as individual.
1. The Competitions are held on a medieval tiltyard in size of 60 х 30 meters which is traditional for Ancient Kiev
2. An archer galloping a horse along the track shoots the arrow at a target of 80 cm in diameter with five points zone.
3. The distance from the track to the target is 10 meters.
4. The horse should gallop otherwise a shot will not be counted. To make a horse gallop it is allowed to use a whip.
5. The number of sets (shots) in a round ranges from 5 to 10. The quantity is determined by the judges on the day of the Tournament.
6. The quantity of the rounds is determined on the day of the tournament and it depends on the quantity of participants.
7. The start time of the rounds is determined by judges on the day of the Tournament.
8. At the beginning of each round it is obligatory the participants? formation to announce their names and to present their costumes.
9. Before each round an archer makes a training shot which is not considered in scoring.
10. The preparation for shooting may be realized at any time of the round. An arrow may be already embedded in the string before the starting line.
11. To comply with equal conditions of shooting all the participants change horses in each round.
12. The arrows shot during a round are returned to the participant by judges.
13. It is prohibited to draw bows in the direction of the spectators. For violation of this rule a participant gets a verbal warning. For repeated violation a Tournament participant is disqualified. The violations are recorded by the judges.
14. Any unfulfilled shot during the round is counted as 0 point.
15. The participant begins to gallop a horse from the starting line only after a visual starting flag signal. If a participant did not wait for a visual starting flag signal, his shot is equal to 0 point.
16. A shot made from the distance less than 10 m (if a horse oversteps the starting line) is equal to 0 point.
17. In case of returning the horse to the starting line to re-race, a shot counts as 0 point.
18. In case of failed shot because of the horse a participant?s result is equal to 0 point.
19. In each round the riders have to follow to the starting line in a certain order of their priority (keep their order of priority). To pass out of the order of priority is equal to 0 point.
20. In case of shooting to the target after the finish line a participant gets a warning. For repeated violation a Tournament participant is disqualified.
21. Each participant of the tournament shall be in a historical or traditional costume and shall have a historical bow and wooden arrows. In case of riding in an inappropriate costume a participant is disqualified. In the application for the Tournament a participant must submit a summary of his costume (the region, the country and the name of the presented costume).
22. Being late for check-in time established by the judges is equal to 0 point for the whole round. In case of two delays a participant is disqualified.
23. In case of intentional bodily impact on the opponent?s horse a participant is disqualified for the round. For repeated violation a Tournament participant is disqualified. The violations are recorded by the judges.
24. The round is over, when the participants are formed for announcing their names and results.
25. The Winner of the Tournament is determined by total points accumulated during two days of competition without including points for night shooting.
The Tournament program includes additional (separate) nominations which are not included in the overall standings:
1. ?The Night Archer?. The 15 top-scorers during the first day of competition are allowed. The Winner of ?The Night Archer? is determined by higher number of points during the night shooting. The beginning of the night is the time of the sunset. There is no training shot during the round. Other rules of the round in this nomination match the daily ones. The target and the tiltyard are lighted by torches and bonfires.
2. ?The Best Historical Costume?. The Winner is determined by the judges during by results of two days.
3. ?Audience Award?. The Winner is determined by the audience by results of two days.
Qualification Rules
The tournament participants? Qualification is held on the first day of the tournament by the judges with the assistance of ?The Horseback Archer 2012? Tournament Champions and the specialists of ?The Kievan Rus Park?.
Place of qualification: ?The Kievan Rus Park?, a small fenced horse tiltyard.
Date of qualification: 30th of August, 2013.
Qualification requirements:
- a historical or national costume;
- a card filled out by the Tournament participant (separate document);
- a fee paid (50 UAH)
Qualification stages:
- to trot (one circle);
- to gallop reinless (one circle);
- to shoot with a bow from the distance of 5 meters to the target of 1x1 meters at a gallop.
A participant is given three attempts in which he should hit at least once in a shield.
If the qualification is not passed a participant will not be allowed to compete and a fee paid will not be refunded.
