Horseback Archery in modern Greece has been revived in 2005 by Aristotle Herc. Kalentzis who has been trained at the ?Valley?-School of the world champion Kassai Lajos located in Hungary.

The first mention of Horseback Archery in modern Greece is found in an extensive article of the specialized magazine ?Horse-Sport-Show? (issue February 2006).

In September of 2006 the world champion Kassai Lajos upon the official invitation by the ?Greek Olympic Archery Federation? and with the supportive actions of his Greek disciple, started the opening ceremony, honorably, of the 17th European games of, so called, ?Olympic? Archery with a Horseback Archery show, in Olympic Equestrian Center of Markopoulo-Athens. While Kassai Lajos was able to pleasantly surprise the crowds and avid sport followers with his abilities, he was also able to introduce the Horseback Archery to the Greek audience conducting a unique and specialized seminar which was organized at the same Center in Markopoulo-Athens as the main speaker.

While exploring personally the ancient roots of Horseback Archery by following strictly its historical framework, Aristotle Herc. Kalentzis founded, in 2008 the ?HELLENIC HORSEBACK ARCHERY SOCIETY? while priory since 2006 the Greek Horseback Archery Team ?GREEK CENTAURS? started its operation, however it became subsidiary of the ?HELLENIC HORSEBACK ARCHERY SOCIETY? in 2008.

The ?GREEK CENTAURS? was established so that it revives the Horseback Archery?s values and principles as well as strategic tactics followed by the ancient Greek Thracian and Cretan Horseback Archers, by default also reviving the Renaissance Greek ?Estradioti? (mounted stray warriors) who under their specialization as Horseback Archers were able to reveal in the European war arena the light cavalry as the decisive weapon!

The ?GREEK CENTAURS? are going through a systemic training course curriculum according to the traditional model introduced by the ?Estradioti? of the Renaissance, based upon the authorized and approved training program and they climb up the hierarchy ladder of the Team upon extensive successful testing, which are captured in still as well as motion files and are maintained in our Team?s database to the credit of the abilities of the incumbents.

All 373 members of the Team are been taught the ancient motherland values of Greece, and the Society?s Chart is based upon the Platonic guiding principles of ?The State?.

Each year the President of the board of the directors of the ?HELLENIC HORSEBACK ARCHERY SOCIETY? publishes on its official website a detailed annual report of actions and activities so that the activities and works performed by the Society and by the Team are fully exposed by complete transparency.

Up to date the Horseback Archery Team ?GREEK CENTAURS? have earned two important awards, the first award in the international competitions of W.T.A.F. 2010 in South Korea [http://horsebackarcherygr.com/WTAF2010.html] for the best performed exhibition of Traditional Archery and the second award was earned during the international competitions of Qinghai in 2012 in China [http://horsebackarcherygr.blogspot.gr/2 ... -2012.html], the award was granted to the Team as the best organized national Team.

The ?GREEK CENTAURS? has also earned a competition cup as well as two medals in the international games of Traditional Archery in Constantinople in 2012 (Turkey) [http://horsebackarcherygr.blogspot.gr/2 ... mehel.html], while each year it participates in games and meetings beyond the Greek borders.

The Team of the ?GREEK CENTAURS? has participated in three specialized forums of Traditional Archery in South Korea (W.T.A.F. 2009, 2010 and 2011) and has placed each time announcements regarding the Traditional Archery that have been published into each forums book of collective notes.

Similarly the activities and actions of the Team has been promoted widely and has been commented upon by the Greek and foreign press media in the form of publications and presentations. It has also participated in important tele-media productions and documentaries such as the ?SPARTAN VENGEANCE" (of ?History Channel?) Having being officially invited by the Hungarian Embassy of Athens, ?GREEK CENTAURS? have performed two public shows of Horseback Archery during the [url]75th International Salonica Affair Thessaloniki-Greece 2010) [http://horsebackarcherygr.com/75TIF.html] and in the grounds of the ?Greek Equestrian Club? (Athens 2011) [http://horsebackarcherygr.com/75TIF.html] during the occasions of the National Day of the Hungarian Armed Forces as for Hungary the Horseback Archery is a national heritage. Lastly ?GREEK CENTAURS? has also participated in a number of shows referring to Traditional Archery.

Since December 2012 the ?GREEK CENTAURS? Team is being run by its new Leader Demetrios P. Christou who has been trained by the founder and first Team-Leader who was happy to see in his ambient personality a worthy descendant for the benefit of Horseback Archery and ?GREEK CENTAURS? in Greece.
