Journal articles

I need some help from those on this board who know more than me (nearly everyone, I imagine!).

Next year I hope to either do a class on the composite bow/archery in general, if not, then my honors thesis in a year's time.

So to prepare, I'm trying to find as much documentation on the archaeology or history of the composite bow, or archery in general.

My university stocks a very extensive range of journals, in addition to the many hundreds available online.

I was wondering if people who knew, could tell me what articles they found useful, helpful or even just interesting. Author, date and name of article would be very useful to me.

Cheers,

Dave

The material in Chinese is horribly unreliable. I may be able to help more with artifacts than articles.

The two classical Chinese works, which give some good insights, are the Rites of Zhou (translated by me), and the Tian Gong Kai Wu, which has also been translated (not by me, but the bibliog. ref is in my book.)

For a survey of all the literature, you'll need to access English, French, German, Russian and Turkish. There's nothing useful in Japanese about bows that I know of, but there is some stuff about technique.

Get the Journal of the Society of Archer-Antiquaries. It has been always full of articles on any archery related subject from all countries in the world, including many articles on the composite bows. All in English.
