Sorry for not being able to post this video in English. The bowyer is in a city
called Dulaankhaan near the Russian border. His name is Jambaagiin Sukhbaatar.
He said something interesting in the video: he is mainly building
bows for sport (showing a huge target bow).He then says that he wanted to bring back to live the ancient Mongolian tradition of horse archery
which would naturally require a smaller (not gung/Mandchu/Khalka style) bow. He roughly explains the materials his bows are made from(ibex horn, ox sinew, silk thread...etc), and the time it takes to produce one bow (about 4-6 month). His bows are arond 60 pounds draw weight. He says, alltogether they are composed from about 12 - 13 different materials. For some reason the video claims that Jambaagiin Sukhbaatar is the only traditional bowyer left in Mongolia. I don't think this is correct. I have heard from others, alltogether they must be around five or six bowyers.
It says in the video, Jambaagiin Sukhbaatar is a bowmaker in the 13th generation, that he has learned it from his father. They are producing not more than 20 bows a year.In the beginning of the video it talks about the
mongol tactics of quick withdrawal and shooting backward from horseback,or luring the enemy into an ambush as well as of the accuracy of their bows on up to 300m and more.

Selenge Aimaq: Dulaankhaan describtion-
Dulaankhaan. Sixty two kilometres South of Sukhbaatar, this tiny village in the sum of the same name is worth a stop if you have your own vehicle. Dulaankhaan is home to Mongolia's only bow and arrow factory. Bows and arrows are made from ibex, reindeer horn, bamboo and, even, fish guts. Only 30 to 40 sets are crafted every year because they take about four months to complete. Each set sells for about US$200. It is thought that today less than 10 people in Mongolia know how to make a traditional Mongolian bow.

Is there a way to download this clip?

The computer that I'm using is at university, so being able to take it home to watch it with a better machine and sound would be helpful, as I don't have the web at home.

Although I suppose it isn't possible to download it, as the site owners would want people to keep going back there!

Dave:
I am not sure if this works, but there are a number of streaming media download tools that might help you. Some have a 15 day trial period:
http://all-streaming-media.com/record-v ... tASFStream
There is a lot of them.....On the above video you can choose between realplayer and wmp, so one of this tools should work.
Steven:
its a good idea to relate this one to the above mentioned articles.
