I'd like to make an inquiry on behalf of flight shooting enthusiast from Poland:
We would like to learn about the rules that apply to "Modern Asiatic Bow" category at the US Flight Shoots. Although the first official Polish competition held in April this year gathered only a few enthusiast of so called Asiatic Bow, one score in particular (by a female archer) was high enough to register in a international competition. As we would like to get an international recognition for a future scores we understand that we need to apply a particular set of rules by which these big competitions are played.

There are two areas that you have to look at. The first is what the restrictions of the category are and how to enter with the appropriate equipment. The second is the officials who with record the shots and the equipment that they need to provide and accurate measurement.

Here is the link the the rules for World Archery (formerly (F.I.T.A.)
http://rulebook.worldarchery.org/PDF/Of ... -Book5.pdf

This does not yet include the Modern Asiatic Class since it has only been recently set up under the auspices of the US Flight Committee. This is like the broad head rules which are not recognised by World Archery as yet. I will see if there is a link yet to the Modern Asiatic Rules and post it here.

Thank you for your reply. Got the link.
Regarding the bows - looks like we would qualify for the US competition as it is. Arrows on the other hand are a different story - our idea was to go with shafts constructed of natural materials only right from the start (plastic nocks as a exception in some cases) reason being is that we believe synthetic materials used in flight arrow construction provide unfair advantage and that would be discouraging for those who make their own arrows. As one of the main principles of our flight competition is to enter the game with the equipment constructed by yourself or by fellow bowyer or arrowsmith this is the path we took, and would like to follow. Now, regarding officials and measurements - well, I guess all we can do at this stage is to obtain the measurements taken by us and record it...

Arrow materials are really the archer's choice in this category. Well made barrelled wooden arrows will probably out perform some modern arrows. It comes down to the bow and arrow match combined with the archer's skill.
