In the passage concerning fish glue it is mentioned that: To prevent the glue from gelatinizing at room temperature an acid such as hydrocloric or asetic acid is added and the adhesiveness of the material is little affected. I wonder if one added a small amount of the above mentioned acids to hide glue the open time of the glue could be extended? Markus.

In some woodworking forums they talked about adding urine to slow the gelling of hide glue

add a few salt to glue it can take the gelling very slowly in summer , and the salt take best geling strength in low temperature

from here and others ,has lots matter can add to glue make more better glue, garlic, liquid form man, oil, salt, i am rather add some soy sauce and cayenne eat the geling glue for pig hide glue :lol:

Jiao. If you add garlic to the glue will you not have a strange smelling bow? Urea can also be used and I have done tests and with moderate amounts added I could not see any weakening og the glue line.
It was the article in itself that I found interesting, I just added the acid thing as a sideline.
