Maybe dues to an incorrect binding of sihya with rope, during making of bow, my hornbow have now a bit torsion. I have tried to straighten it with clamps: at moment it become straight, but after some times it retourn to have torsion. Does anyone can suggest some solution more durable ?

The Mongolian method is to tie a piece of dowel rod inside the string loops, pressing aganst the torsion. Would that work on your bow?

Stephen, if I've well understood the metod that you suggest, I've already tried it. I've maintained the bow in such position (with the dowel piece exerciting an opposing pressure to the torsion) for two or tree days. It works at moment (i.e torsion disappears), but with the time, slowly, the bow come again to twist.

Guys; What kind of bows are torqued? What style? Can you display a picture? I have a novel solution which worked for me. -j-

This technique can work for your bow. Use a saw with a thin blade. Make a cut through the center axis of the siyah down to the sinew. Insert a narrow wedge into that split and glue well into place., clamp. This will make the sayah very thick again. When dry, carve the siyah again moving the axis in the desired direction. Also, when the siyah is cut, it can be pushed slightly in the desired direction.

There also appears to be extra thickness to your siyah, so all is still ok.

I got this idea from Chinese bows which are split in this manner to insert horn nock tips. A safe technique. -j-

Maybe I must first try with heating it and straighten it.

Yes, keep trying to correct it with heat. A good way is to use an electric heating pad set on low first, then higher and wrapped over the twisted area for 30mi or longer. The temperatue however must not go beyond about 50-60deg Celsius, otherwise the sinew may delaminate (it depends on how long the bow was seasoned). Check it often to see if the limb softens. Even the most dramatic twists can be corrected this way.

I understand you are asking if the method of binding horn with rope causes a twist in the limbs. It does to a small extent, but it is immediately corrected by untwisting while the materials are still hot. I did not have any problems. Now I use, however, clamps, instead of rope, mainly beacause I work alone and a helper can be necessary to hold the bow during the wrapping operation.

The untwisting in already made bows can be permanent, if enough heat is applied or less heat for a longer time. This can sometimes be very frustrating and take forever (weeks) to make sure the limbs bend in one plane. I would never give up - it always works in the end. Some bows are inherently less stable and can be very sensitive to the slightest misalingments. A composite bows is not made until it shoots arrows.
