After asking arounf about good materials for making bows and someone reccommended that I use bamboo as a light, strong and flexible building material. I have some more questions, I plan on making a Yumi to go with a suit of Samurai armor I am also working on, and I plan on using bamboo for the back and belly with a good hard wood for the core. Can anyone give me an advice as to what a good wood for making bow core is? also, if I construct a bow in this manner, how should I recurve the tips? Should I recurve the wood and bamboo seprately or as a single unit when everything has been glued together?

hi

I?m not so familiar with Yumi-bows, but I?ve done some other Asiatic-type bamboo-bows.
I would use a very thin slat of maple as the core-wood, due to its glueing capablities. If you want a sharp recurve join it like a siyah to the bow, otherwise its better to bend the bamboo and core before the glueing.
