Thanks a lot for this nice post.I have seen bamboo wegdes been used
in jap. yumi making, but it seems a good idea.

nice work Reto !

Good for you Reto! Did you use one of the cores from me? The glue lines turned out nice and even. I'm happy to see you trying this effective way to glue up a bow. Please show us how these bows turn out. SteveT.

I built one of my bows with Steve's core(s). By the way, he is the core-maker for Jaap K.!

It seems quite easy to do, Reto !

I might do a few myself...

Reto: Nice job on the photos explaining how to make wedges. Do you find you have to make the point of the wedge thin to get under the rope easier?
This also makes the wedge "flex" more and tightens the laminations giving a tighter glueline.
I thank-you very much for the reference too. Talk to you in the fall.

Hi Reto, very good description of the work with wedges.

One more question from me. As I understood the video from Jaap he wrapps all parts together in "cold" state, then attaches the wedges, then warms all up and tightens the wedges again. In your description you tell (as I understand) to keep the whole stuff warm over the whole procedure.

Is there a?special reason for your way to do it or is it just the you've done it alredy ever? Did you ever try the way of Jaap?
Reto
Yep, I use a mixuture of Issinglas (http://www.dick.biz/ no. 450158) and hidglue; Jaap uses a kind of Epoxy (e.g. Smooth-On EA-40 - check with http://www.3riversarchery.com). He has much more time to set up the wedges and to put the bows in a heating box.

I have to work much faster and keep the materials warm with the hot air gun. Fortunately the bow's limbs are quite short (52 cm each). The old masters from Japan put bows like the Yumis also in a kind of heating box.

It just forwards email to his normal email adress after spam filtering. I just do it that way to preserve his privacy.

So you redirect email. Good trick. Thank you.
