Operating lifetime of hornbow
Dear friends,
may i ask
1) what is you experience with hornbows at the point of hornbow lifetime?
2)Is that bow for "frequent" or just "occasional" shooting?
3)Have you got any experiences with asymetrical Hunnish composite bows, compared to Hungarian ones?
thanks a lot
Michal

I have shot with a hornbow that is 150 years old. But it has been repaired a few times. It would only have been used a few times a year (perhaps ten to twenty times.)
Most hornbows are assymetrical according to the weight of the upper and lower limbs. However, only a few bows are constructed to be visually assymetrical.
There is little difference in feel between the different sorts of assymetrical bow.

Welcome Michal,
if a hornbow is done well, it should last forever.
During the first 12 months of its use hornbows may have some crisis, like tiller-problems or limb-twist, but a good hornbowyer is able to repair it.
The worst case is breakage, but if the bowyer has done a good job, this should never happen.
A hornbow needs to be treated right, avoid wet or to hot conditions, be careful when you string the bow. I don?t use my hornbow if it is raining or very cold weather, I shoot with my hornbow almost every day, you can even let it be strung for some weeks.
We?ve discussed here in the forum the pros and contras of asymmetric and symmetric bows. I would state, it depends on what you prefer, cause there is no significant difference in the performance between both designs

Thanks a lot, Stephen and Redhawk,
Stephen: what do you mean by the diferent feeling, you mean hand shock?
All: I found somewhere, that asyymetrical Hunish has less handshock, than symetrical Hungarian and that its faster bow, than Hungarian one.
Do you agreee with that?
Is there any loosing of draw weight in hornbow, during the time? How much?
Thanks
p.s. sorry my primitive questions, i am really beginer
