Just a quick question about jointing
Dear All,
I've got my materials together and I now have two ways forward, either I use the kind of siyah assembly as shown below or I can use a simple splice like seb bishop appears to have used in his bow.
Out of experience which assembly works best?
Thanks for your help (again sorry for these rather simple questions)
Mike
edit: I appear to have posted the picture with a breakage on it, please ignore the red line

Hi M Hardman, do the fishtail and wrap it with sinew.

Either construction will work. If you are not used to steam-bending, getting the correct angle can be tricky, so following Redhawk's recommendation of splicing is easier.

Mike; The bent joint is older; the fishtail splice is later. Some of these bows have a very smooth transition between limb and siyah so steaming may be negotiable. Heating with direct heat from a gas flame is quicker. Or maybe heating might not be necessary at all, depending. -j-
Dear All,
In that case would it be best if I tried to find wood with a grain that was in the shape of a Siyah?
I've tried steaming and heating wood in the past but I have only ever produced some rather catastophic breakages (in longbows that were beforehand perfectly reasonable).
If I were to steam the wood, how long for before the wood becomes jelly? (I've read that after too long the wood breaks down), And how long should I leave the wood before appliying any bending pressure?
Many thanks
Mike
