A good friend of mine, who is a blacksmith and an arrowhead maker, asks if anyone has a picture of traditional Asian forge or blacksmiths tools? It will help him to have a better idea about methods of forging arrowheads in the east.

Thanks

Dear all:

He knows how to forge - this is his business and he has made all kinds of excellent heads, including the oriental tanged types. He is however curious, and as a perfectionist, would like to know the tools and conditions of work in this region. A picture of an old forge with tools scattered around would be great.

Thanks

I have seen one or two smiths at work in China. Basically, I could not see any difference between their tools and the ones that I learned on (I learned forgeing at school!)

The anvil is not the western shape as there is not much shoeing work. None of the forges I have seen specialized in making arrowheads.

One thing I may be able to get is a video showing the making of Japanese swords. The craftsman turns the steel blank while two assistants are hammering This might provide some insight into the making of ya-nome. Would that help?

Thanks, the video would be helpful.

Sometimes little details of tools, for example the size of hammers can indicate the working methods.
