Hornbow of mufflon-horns

This bow was done by following the growth of the horn. I?ve had no idea what type of hornbow this horn will turn out to be finally. So I begun to cut the horn and to straighten it by cooking. I strained the 2 strips for some days with clamps, but they begun to go back into their twisted naturally grown shape very soon. I repeated the whole procedure 4 times within half a year. But no possibility to keep the hornstrips straight.
Than I?ve had the following idea: I cut 2 strips of waterbuffalo-horn with an opposite twist as the mufflonhorn-strips, horn-thickness of the mufflon-horn is finally 2mm, thickness of waterbuffalo-horn is finally 1.5mm. I grooved the glue-lines and glued the strips. The result were 2 straight hornstrips. I butt-joined them at the grip, done with another 2 hornplates at the back and the belly.
The bow got 2 layers of buffalo-sinew, the grip and the limbs are heavily wrapped with sinew and birch-bark. I really was not sure if this would work, so I tested this bow for almost 9 month. But the bow turned out to be a very sweet but fast shooter. It is painted with blue-earth and finished with dammar-resin.
Drawlength is 26" with 48lbs.

Maybe this bow resembles the Yrzi-bow.

Dr Grayson presents a bow like that somewhere in the TBB.
Great stuff!

You might be thinking of the sinew-backed caribou antler bow. It is quite a remarkable bow. Despite the material, it is quite flexible though strong.
