Is a horn bow?

İt is a horn bow, I use maple , w.bufallo horn, moose snew, snew and sturgeon bladder glue. 2 year to finish.Back is covered by vegetable tanned leather.Im not good enough for painting yet so I do not decorate it.

it is a nice bow, where you got this maple ? so symmetrical the tree growth each year, in my province of north china the dark layer only 1-2MM(which layer growth in autumn), it is faultlessly look form pcture, i need go south got the wood for the core?

Thanks for ''g?zel yay''. Bow is 104 cm ntn, sal(bending section) is 21cm (1.1cm thick, 3.3cm width), kasan 17 cm,tip 9 cm. Draw lenght is 66 cm( from belly).I do not test draw weight .

Maple is from Russia ,it is air dried. Maple is well grown in Turkey( best mild and cold climate) .Maple is grow fast in mild climate and grains become thick.Old Turkish bowyers(kemanger) used fresh shoot.

Cem; The recurves look to be layered, then edge grooved. The grip piece looks grooved likewise. Are these Ottoman techniques? This is a very beautiful bow and congratulations. Jack.

The bow looks very good when finished and strung but berfore, my first impression was that this bow looks a bit massive in the kasan and in the bash.
Is it something like 85 pounds ?

The kasan is particularly thick and longer than the sal.
Why is it so ?
I thought target bow were made longer and with shorter kasan than sal ??

What is the physical weight ?
Is it absolutely necessary to groove the fishtail joints ?

Paul Klopsteg after Hein and Kani quotes : the fishtail joints are grooved with the tashiin.

I suppose the difficult place is the transition between kasan and sal.
I see that the kasan ridge is going over this place which remains flexible at full draw ?

Would you please show us the bow strung but in horizontal position ?

Redbow, this bow was made for stability and the ease of tillering. so the kasan sections are wider than usual. Also the longer kasan helps stability, since the bending sections become short. It is a heavy bow approaching a 100lb. So it is a hybrid.

Target bows were not necessarily longer than other types. Sometimes bowyers would make a bow longer for the ease of draw - so called "loose fit".

I do not use layer for recurve, wood is solid.I bend it in hot water.Grip and limb grooved likewise and fit exactly.Old Turkish bowyers used shallow groove for glued grip to limb,it is my preference.
I do not know draw weigh exactly but it is 17kg in 43 cm.

hehe , i am wrong tack the word turk,turkey,turkish. the turk in chinese called 突厥 in china tang dynasty, and who take the Hun( north XIONGNU, in year A.D. 43) as his ancestor(i am not sure it is accurate and more people accept it ) , the turk in year A.D 658 move to middle Asia, so ,the early history of turk and hun must got in china

and what importance, in chinese early history, our ancestor huangdi 's offspring which one is called hun :shock: perhaps our common ancestor of human sadly for his offspring war forever

This is a very nice bow, it does not need more decoration, beauty can be in very simple things... :)
