Time to Shoot
Since I've been back in the States, I've probably done more shooting than in the past year in Korea. It helps that my folks have a large field where my Korean target is set up and I can place 3D and flat foam targets here and there (picture is of my son shooting a few years ago). I've been getting up around 5:30 a.m. (thanks to jet lag), putting in a bit of time on the computer, and then when it's light I've been heading out to the field to shoot and do some walking exercises (I'm waaaay out of shape). This morning, a large tom turkey was milling around the field, not caring about me in the slightest.
I've been shooting different types of arrows, together with a 51# @31" Korean bow, to compare performance. At close distances, I really like wood; the ones I'm currently shooting are hex pine arrows from Whispering Wind. Yesterday, while doing something else at Walmart, I wandered into their archery section and looked at some of the carbon shafts they have. I picked up four different ones to try out: Wolverine 6070 (no model, $3.53/each), Wolverine 6070 Hunter ($4.97/each), Wolverine 5060 (no model, $3.53/each), and Carbon Express 6075 Terminator ($5.83/each). The Terminator flew better than the others, both at close distance and also at Korean distance. The others flew o.k., but I was pretty much taken with the Terminator. It was the most expensive of the four, but still significantly cheaper than Korean carbons. I will probably pick up some cheaper arrows, too, for my students to use (they've broken most of my expensive Korean carbons  ).

Thomas, I am envious.
It's summer vaction for me as a teacher and I can't shoot because of this darned elbow injury! Very frustrating. I hope to be able to shoot my 25#er next week. Enough about that.
I bought a Carbon Express Terminator 65/70 last December after hunting season and found it to be super durable and able to fly well out of everything from a 35# @ 28" solid glass kids bow to my 200fps+ ff string, 55# @ 28" custom recurve. This is all with the thumbring of course. Split finger they were too stiff for my 50# bows...
I have a little secret for you. Actually it's pretty well known. Around early to mid December, Walmart puts all archery stuff on clearance sale. I paid $3.50 for that Terminator. Next year I may buy a dozen.
BTW: Great pic of you son! and I hope your folks are well.

Hi Jason,
For the longest time, I wasn't able to shoot due to my teaching and administrative schedules. I was coming back to the States in the winter, so I had no place to shoot at that time (I didn't feel like looking for arrows in snow banks). Now that I am coming back in the summer, all of that changed.
I went to Walmart yesterday and bought a dozen Terminators, Wolverines, and some glass kids' arrows. Unfortunately, as I won't be here this coming winter (although my son is supposed to be), I can't take advantage of the clearance sales :(
My folks are holding their own--thanks! They are 82 y.o., but keep on plugging away.

Tom,
You should have your folks or you son scoop up some of those arrows in mid to late December for you! I' d do it myself for ya, but you'd probably loose any discount in to shipping costs :(
I'm glad to hear you folks are doing well!

Jason,
The problem being, my son will probably fill up his luggage allotment with a new guitar or something :?

Thomas what part of the country are you in and do you have any thoughts about joining us at MOJAM the bow makers convention in marshal mo on the weekend of the twentith of july? Bill
Hi Bill,
I'm in lower northern Michigan (around the tip of the ring finger of the "mitt"). I doubt I'll be able to go to MOJAM, due to lots I'm trying to get done here at my folks' place. If there was something nearby here that I could do a day-trip to, I'd be all over it. Thanks for thinking of me, though :)

Tom,
Just figgurred I'd tell ya that I shot yesterday for the first time in weeks (short, corner of the mouth draw, with a 35# bow, about 100 arrows) and my elbow felt/feels GREAT! I will not shoot today, let it rest up and maybe shoot tomorrow.
Between the pic of your son's site picture and my shooting buddy Tamr comming over with his bow, I couldn't help myself!
You guys are bad/good influences! :)
