Eugen; Good videos! The arrow maker is Yoo Yung-Ki who demonstrated for us in Korea at WTAF. He releases the steam from the hot bamboo with a needle awl. -j-

The part when the sinew is glued on the core is missing. But I still can see how long are the sinew fiber used, it look like the sinew have the same lenght as the bow limb. The glue on the sinew look very viscous, unlike I have know about sinewing. My believe was that thin glue is used for sinewing.

I wonder if my wife will want to help me cuting, glueing ,wrapping etc.
I think not. :D

it seemed the sinew back technology differ , form three korean bowyer(bowyer differ to bowyer, three video show the three process).on old hornbow in china, these sinew strings i test it's elasticity. some of it is red, some of it is white, and some of it is yellow, all of them strong fiber

Hi,

Thanks for the video link. In the last section of the video, just before stringing the bow, there are two other sections that I don?t understand.

1. Before string the bow he is heating the limb. Why does he heat the limb? To make it bend?

2. In the section before heating the limb, the bowyer is applying something on the bows belly that looks like white sheet of ?something?. I would say it is sinew but I?m not sure because it looks different than the sinew applied on the bows belly before this sequence. And he just seems to put it on the belly without putting glue on it. What is it he is doing there?

Thanks for your help!

Does anyone know where to get sinew that long?

I do not know who the bowyer is. He applies the sinew while sitting on the veranda in front of the window with the light bulb and the brazier glowing red. He smoothes the wet sinew with his fingers.

He is previously shown combing the sinew together with glue on a narrow board. I do not know how long it dries before applying, or what part of the opperation heating the bow applies to. However steam appears to be coming out of the sinew, maybe it is a cool night. This is cow sinew,

I did see Master Kim liberally applying heat to a bow in order to string and straighten it. -j-

For longer sinews we can try Camels; Lots of them are slaughtered every year in middle-east asia during the HAJ pilgrim season; But no idea how to procure them though.
