Hi

I am looking at purchasing either a brass or horn thumbring--my question is which of these are best or better to use--and I know its a very subjective question, but your opinions might help me in deciding which to get. Also, I am looking at the Grozer scythian for my first horsebow (old scythian model) and was wondering how is the cast/stability compared to the newer model--SACYTHA-HUNGARIAN, and is there any noticeable hand shock in either model. Thanks

I recommend horn.

I was also wondering whats the difference between the "horse-shoe" and the "tear-drop" versions? Thanks

the main difference is that shape of the ring.
Horse-shoe rings have a lip on them, makes it a little easier to keep the string in place. I can show u a picture in a few days when i get home.

Also. I got 4 rings from Reiner already (eastern-archery). So far the horse-shoe one I bought from him is my favorite ring, especially compared to 2 other ring-cutters. Do yourself a favor and just buy the basic design ring, without any inlays. that way you can get 2 rings, one horseshoe and one teardrop to try them both out. Make sure you get your size as close as you can. Even then you will probably have to sand it down to match your thumb (takes a few hours at most).
hope this helps
Cheers

I second the horn ring. Less weight for the string to push out of the way and easier to customize to your thumb shape/size once you get it.
