Two of my new projects part 1
A Crab bow! Note, the purpose for me to make these bows is to refine and approve my skill and knowledge of horn bow making.
This is "one man craft",from them I'll learn all the details of this craft. But my cost will be too much.

Your projects both look very nice ! keep posting !
Yokhua, at what point did you add all the reflex. I don't think that it all came form the sinew shrinking.
When you reflexed it, did you heat the bow to make it pliable?
I am afraid to reflex my korean bow into a circle because I don't want the horn to come undone or to break.
Can you give me some advise?

Don't heat the bow at this stage!!
When first layer of sinew applied and "half" deied bend the bow a bit. Then after the second layer bend more. Repeat this process till done.
The distand bent each time depends on how many layers of sinew you want to applied.
Oh! by the way when thw bow is done and you want to brace it for the very first time (Let's say 3 months from now), be very careful that is critical!!

Thank's Yokhua for the info. The tips of my bow are around 20" apart. And I will be doing 4 layers.
Also, what do you mean by 'be very careful that is critical'?

Easy with that knife! :D
Yuhua, that's an interesting project, a "classic", but it's hard to tiller such a bow!!!
How thick did you make the core and how long the bow? It looks really short.
Also, how many pieces is the core made of? I can see 3 pieces, but it might be that your joints are too good to show...
The handle looks like one piece with the core, so you must have started from something really thick.
It's interesting you say you're going to string it 3 months from now! I always thought you would string it much later...

Alberto:It is 7 pieces of wood and you are right it is vrey short ;134cm and should be about 105cm when strung.
For the tillering, you know some old bows like this the bellys are covered by sinew as well, so I should be very careful when sinewing it. If things are going like I have planned I won't have to scrap horn out and just by heating and adjusting. But if things go wrong and I should add extra sinew on the weaker side.
I really don't have the patient to wait for a whole year, my plan is 6 months.

Yokhua,
What kind of wood have you used for this Indo-Persian bow?
And in particular, what wood have you used for the siyahs?
(You bow looks great)
Greetings & Salaam
