I am trying to make arrows that mongols would have used in the yuan dynasty. Can anybody give me pointers? Also, how can I get the right style of fletching; and how can I get the correct angle of the feathers with a jig?

In Asian tradition is normal to glue flething without jig. You must to snatch away "flag" from a feather and to glue it using a hide glue. You will aplicate glue on the feather, get end of it between thumb and index finger and put it on the arrow near of the nock. Tight feather by other hand and glue it.

What about the feathers?

To use a modern western jig, You can make a piece to fit into the nock holder to change the orientation of the nock slot by 90 degrees.

In the old days it was all done by hand and hide glue was the preferred adhesive. Tail feathers were preferred because they were straighter and easier to apply without a jig.

A Yuan dynasty arrow maker's kit was published many years ago in Wenwu. whether it was Mongol or not I cannot say. Arrow heads were published and a small photo of the arrows found with the box. The fletching was large but not as big as the later Qing fletching.
