Problematic horns
Hello
Recently, I've worked with pair of horn strips, but I don't know are these good enough. Horns are from Dick, so You know what that's mean :( . I' ve noticed a very small crack on one strip. Would You help me?
PS. Sorry for the quality of pictures, but my camera has unloaded.

Can you give informationabout this hillen horns. I found no real matches with google.
I second that Dusan. I bought some stuff from Martin short time ago - he knows what he's selling.

No, crack is only on that white spot.
Well, I'm certainly not an expert and been using buffalo horn only for small projects, though those small pieces I'm working with come from larger slabs that have been cut by me on band saw. In my experience it is very difficult to find grain orientation in horn. I'm sure it would be much easier to start with full horns and mark the material as you cut it.
Those small white spots/strips might help (they usually run parallel to the grain) Other thing you might do is to sand the strips with fine sandpaper (this method tends to magnify the grain as well)
