Arrow-spine
Hello All.
I want to try bamboo shafts.
my bows are 40-45# draw at 32",thumb-ring,round handles(mainly Grozer). I currently only have cedar shafts, plastic nocks,125g field points.
the cedar shafts are spined at 55-60# at 28", and usually stick in the target with the nock end a bit to the right of center. They are 33.25" long in total. it's very difficult here to find shafts over 32".
I can get 39" bamboo shafts, which can of course be cut down 35" so I won't be so nervous about over-darwing the shaft and skewering my hand.
Opinions as to appropriate spine weight?
Thanks,
Boghadair

Bamboo shafts are not spined.
Traditionally bamboo shafts are not spined but weighed. You will find an arrow in the low 20s gram weight will work wellif the point is light. Bamboo is a superior material arrow making material and has a far greater spine range than any other material. -j-
I've also become really interested in bamboo shafts too. Does anyone know where I can get ultra thin (6.5 - 7 mm) shafts for a 55 - 57 lb @ 32 1/2 inch bow (and would these arrows also work for a 70 lb @ 32 1/2 inch bow)?
Orda,
Some or most people may not spine them. However, I asked because my possible source lists several lots for sale that include spine weights. He does seem to imply that spine is not as significant for bamboo as it is for wood. So, contrary to your assertion, they are spined :) at least by some people(or at least they claim to have spined them :x )

Personally I would not buy any shafts which were not cat scanned. Does your possible source cat scan his shafts?
Jack,
apparently he runs them through a tri-ladium resonator machine first, followed by a Helsinki smash-down coil to perfectly smooth down the nodes. the hollow spaces between the nodes are then filled with an argon-orgylyium gas compound for smooth transfer of energy from node to node during the acceleratory phase of launch, and the shafts are coated with a diamond-oleo-marmalade finish that allows the shafts to go between light photons, thus substantially increasing arrow speed, according to my calculations, 323fps from any bow of 11.7 kg draw weight, with a flat trajectory.
I will be in charge of marketing for the western hemisphere.
how many shafts would you like to order? special price $275.00 per dozen.

But seriously folks,
Jack, I should ask the guy instead what weight the shafts are, how does one allow for the 39.5" length? ie will the additional 6" or so be significant? they would be cut down to 35-36" for my use.
