Old source said , that cornus mass was better for grip part , but not for sal(limb) -bending part.Mi experience was same.

Zoltan, I don?t have experience with cornus as a core- wood. But I?ve heard and read that cornus mas is rhe better choice.
I would estimate it as a bit to heavy, but it has been used by bowyers of the past.

The only thing I ve start to work with sangifolia because found a perfect piece. Made shafts and selfbows with good results from dogwood and tought gave it a choice as core.

So Dusan! U use sangifolia as core? What kind of bow was that and how it working? I know that the mas was used for gripp and for core too.
Another qestion, what about the knots in cornus. Especially in my cornus mass are some little knots but have in sangifolia too.

I make a short Magyar bow with 90cm core. This is ready for glueing and have a longer one with 96cm core under construction.

Try to make tham heavy about 90-100# on 26 and 28. May not a good idea for first  but I like warbows.

Thanks guys

I dont use sagnifolia , but C. Mass. I thing that this wood is fantastic for all wood bow, but- maybe too heavy for composite . I use him only for grip part.
