I did build a Turkish kind of hornbow and did test it after just few weeks drying.
And now 6 month later I did test it again.
6 months seasoning did give 10% higher weight. A few percent higher efficiency. The efficiency can be explained by the lose of mass combined with the higher weight for the lower mass.

Bravo Redhorse. Another reason for wating. Like i still says - old masters was no stupid if wait long time... (Another question is - waighting for good bow- no bad "experiment" construction... :D )

But who need this improvement? Do I? This bow goes from 211fps to 232 fps with same arrow. Of course I want to get the best from my gear. But practical?
What we never will know is if the early testing has made any harm to the bow. Maybe it would have been even faster, or the same anyway?

Redhorse, the first testing has harmed the bow for sure. Look for polymerisation or ask a chemist. I think it would be even possible to figure out the loss of drawweight in numbers by anybody who is an expert in that case.
Never interrupt polymerisation.
You?re right the majority of nowadays archers is not able to notice the difference- 211f/s vs. 232f/s- but for a bowyer and a well trained archer it is must and a big chance for a better performance.

Thats a great performance! What is the weight of that bow? Is some pics from than on your homepage?
It's the bow in the Swedish bowpress thread. Today it weight 72lb.
Did break a kasa twice on it :( but it shot.
Longest shoot is 280 meters. With the new weight and efficiency I guess I could make 300 meters.

I did the same thing with my composite bow. I didn't wait so long when I made it because I am beginner and I wanted to make a few bows for practice and gathering experience even though they are underperforming because the didn't rest long enough. I also didn't follow the traditional way with this one, I applied the sinew first and later the horn when the sinew was dry because I figured drying is faster through wood than through wood and horn.
I completed a bow in November and it drew 55# at a 28" draw. I let it rest during winter and braced it for the first time after the break today. There were no cracking sounds, it went perfectly fine, but the bow felt strong. I measured the draw weight and it pulled 75#. The bow had 13?C, so left it in a room in my flat at 20?C. It still draws 72#. I am very surprised by this increase because after reading Redhorse's result I expected a few pounds increase.
Unfortunately I can't tell anything about the humidity, but I suppose the core is drier now than it was in November. During the winter months the bow was stored at about 13?C and 40% to 45% relative humidity in an unheated room in my flat.

How endid your Korean bow work, Daniel ?
Korean or Crim-Tatar like looking bow. It suffered. I sanded the bow, reduced the size of the siyahs because they seemed bulky, then the bow endured my poor painting skills. It looked fine, but when I braced it, it broke at the knee of one siyah. I don't know why, but at least it was a clean break. The grip also split on this limb. I V-spliced a new siyah and flooded the split in the grip with low viscosity epoxy. It holds so far.
I think I will try another one with proper construction technique because I like the design. I have made a core for another bow where I glued the horn with hide glue. I want to finish this one first to see if it the glueing worked.
The string is a bit more off center than it was last year. The draw weight is still at 70# after 50 times drawing.

Thats reality... many failurs an slow progres . I always teach in mi broke bows. Long and hard school. Now i work in fue Korean bows too . We will see...Good luck in work and dont saty long time in depresive mind (like me :lol: )
More then a year later, the bow weight 71 lb today and has not been used. It shoots as a year ago.
:D once you work vith him "3 weeks" drayed sinew last year ... He woudnt be better now.But i am still not "expert" in this question. I only work vith time experiments , diferent glues-mixture x time... long work.We will see about fue years :lol:
