String Loop Length
Making another all-wood Steppe style bow. This one is Red Elm with elm and Mango laminated siyahs.
It dawns on me that I'm not sure how long the string loops should be for optimum performance, etc. There's gotta be a formula, or at least a rule of thumb. The siyahs are 5" long from the "heel" to the tip along the belly edge. How long should the loops be???

It's over 100F in the workshop, even with the doors open. Hence the sweat splotches distributed all over the bow, the tree, the floor...

In general, make the loop long enough so that the knot/splice falls naturally at the point where the string touches the limb (or siyah or string bridge) when the bow is strung at rest.
