Can both sides of a water buffalo horn be used?

Can both sides of a water buffalo horn be used in a bow? Also can a strip be made the full length of the horn instead of cutting a karn strip? I have a horn that I could get a strip the same size from each side. Riley

Hi Riley, if you mean the outer or inner curves it?s o.k. then

I would say it depends on the horn.

The inner side of many horns has too little width/thickness or has too much imperfections. If this is the case it cannot be used. If not it can be used.
The stripe will be narrower and shorter than the otter curve tough.

I would say that the instructions for cutting 2 stripes from lower side is suitable only for premium horn and experienced horn cutter. I would say it is always better to try get one good stripe and trying to get 2 and get none due to failure. The same than wood.

I have also considered cutting the side wall to multitude of thin pieces by the curvature of the horn and then glue them together. I am certain this is doable. I am even more centain it has hard and require a lot of work.

These are based on quite limited experience.

Thanks, everyone for the answers. I can get a long strip from the inner outer and curve and maybe two shorter ones. Riley
