I guess Bede has been there? Any results? I?m really wondering why you can?t find any word posted about that event.

There were several records broken by the Hungarian team.
In the Primitive Complex Composite (Turkish Class) Monus Jozsef shot 318.72 metre which is s new world record. His son Monus Laszlo set a new Junior's record in the same class of 239.97 metres. This class requires the use of a composite bow of all natural materials, a siper and a thumb ring.

In the Primitive Complex Composite Unlimited category, Monus Laszlo set a new world record for Juniors of 203.80 metres. In the Primitive Complex Composite Unlimited category for Women, Monus Anna established a world record of 179.75 metres.

In the Primitive Complex Composite 50 pound category for Women, Amy Haile of the USA shot 270.86 metres setting a new world record.

In the Primitive Simple Composite 50lb, Kay Koppedrayer set a new world record of 200.56 metres. A record was set earlier inn the day by Jordan case in the same event but it was superseded by Kay's.

In Broadhead flight, there were also several records set.
In Primitive Complex Composite Unlimited, Monus Jozsef set a new world record of 274.041 metres. His son Laszlo set a record in the same category for Juniors of 247.603 metres.

A junior is this context is 18 years old or under. These are preliminary figures and if I have any updates I will add them to the page. I took over 3000 pictures, most in sequences of shooting. We use these to analyse shooting style and to catch events that happen too fast for the eye to see. I shall post some here and more on Picasa over the next week.

Thanx, Bede
Great results, what about selfbows 50lbs?
3000 pics, that?s a lot.
What a kind of bow have you shot?
Michael
Uli
Wow the Hungarians broke all records in the unlimited category.
Who made the bows (Grozer?) and what was the draw weight ?
Bede
We had a new bow weighing machine that had special fittings to hold bows with unconventional handles. I was using an Adam Karpowicz Turkish style bow that is really not a flight bow. Knowing it is too strong for me, I left it strung in 40 degree C heat in the shade for 6 hours and it weighed in at 66 pounds. However, the air conditioning in the motel room had a magical effect on it and it was much heavier when I was to shoot it the next day. I also shot Jaap Koppedrayer's Turkish bow, but at over 55 pounds I was having trouble with it too, making me think long plane flights and long drives afterwards are not the best preparation for flight shooting.

This was the first year Jaap's bow did not break a string, I I credit the silk string I made for it. The Hungarians used some of my silk for their strings and after a few attempts got it right and also had few failures.

Are you interested in 50 lb self bows in broad head as well. Do you mean, primitive self bows and English longbows?

Thanx Bede for sharing your experiences too. I got more and more involved in flight- shooting. There are so many details to know and to handle right. My bows are very well now, I?ve to find out the "right" arrows.
It?s good to hear that silk is able to do the job, actually I give ramie a try.
Mainly I?m interested in primitive selfbows up to 50lbs.
Can?t wait to have a look at your pics.

Thanks for the results. It's interesting to have goals to aim for!
I wonder why there is such a discrepancy between the distances shot by hornbows in the not too distant past and the distances achieved today?
fusizoli
Thanks Bede for the results!

Waiting for pics too. Still haven't seen my friends pics here.

Oh and many thanks for the help U gave tham :)

mike, I?m wondering too, maybe it?s a kind of propaghanda!

Forget it, follow the actual discussion on PALEOPLANET/ flights 2011.
Flightshooting has been much more popular in the 1920?s - the 1940?s, these men and women have shot much further than you and me and others. This could be frustrating, but let?s take it as a challenge.
Short bows with static recurves are seeming to be the key.
I have done 2 shorties, shooting 200f/s+, but I didn?t succed in making the fitting arrow, for not to talk about the right shooting- style. There?s a lot to learn and to experience.
Let?s go, Michael
Bede
I think the disparities are that the earlier composite results in the 1940s through the 1980s were conducted with bows that might not fit the current idea of traditional bow definitions and as a result the modern bow makers are trying to do the same thing while still keeping to the traditional methods of building the bows and arrows. I also believe that we are trying to shoot in as authentic manner as possible and it takes time to perfect the right technique.

I think we will make it.
