Sinew Edges

Hey all. I'm on my last of three layers of sinew on the two bows I've been posting about. I'm a bit confused on exactly what the sinew overlap down onto the horn belly at the edges should look like. Is there a noticeable ridge there on each side of the horn when you're done, or does this get feathered out by sanding eventually?

afaik lateral sinew ridges (protruding towards the back of the bow) are considered a characteristic of crimean tatar bows.

otherwise the sinew is flat and covers some the lateral horn belly

Hi all. 4 months into cure, am starting to shape the sinew. Concerning the belly overlap: in Adam's book it looks like many of his bows don't have a considerable amount (if any) sinew left on the belly after tillering. He also mentions: "... no need to worry about exposing the wood of the core at the edges..." so long as the sinew is the widest part of the limb. Is it permissible to scrape off this overlapped area? Is the purpose of the overlap to keep the sinew from curling cross-wise during the cure, and it can be safely removed during tillering?

Thanks!

Hi nwrob1, in all my bows the sinew stops at the sides: I've never put it on the belly. I think you can safely scrape it off during tillering. Hope this helps.
