Training for heavy bows
What kind of exercises do you recommend in order to be able to shoot heavier bows?I'm making little progress.

Shoot more!
And while you're there, a few deadlifts, power cleans, bent over rows, and pull-ups will probably help too. You could try swinging heavy clubbells too which is fun but they are expensive to buy :D

An inexpensive way to bump up strength is to pull Theraband Exercise Tubing. For example, you can tie a larger loop and then fold it on itself to double the thickness. Lately I've been using the silver color, and it turns out to be more challenging than pulling a 110#@30" Kassai Bear.
It's good to strength train right-handed pulls and left-handed pulls so your musculature doesn't become too lopsided. (For regular shooting I still stick with one side.)

When you draw a heavy bow, do you feel like your bow arm can't take the pressure or the drawing arm can't draw anymore?. Usually is the bow arm witch fails first, especially when you get in the over 120-140# range.
I would recommend bar pull ups if the drawing arm can't complete the pull, one handed push ups if the bow arm fails and of course theraband exercises are very good.
But do not forget that this takes more skill then brute force, you need to start pushing the bow leaning in the bow.
Mark has such good technique.

if you have access to a jym this is a very good exercise.
And if can't do any of these, you could just pull 2 bows at the same time http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrvADvXYlfE.

Ciao Francesco !
Good to see you here !
What weight is your horn bow? I always wondered.
I am in somewhat the same situation as you discribe here, I am doing pushups and dumbbell bench presses, I think pullups would help a lot but gotta get the bar up.
I am well into my 7th decade so as they say use it or lose it. And I dont intend to stop shooting my bows.

You can exercise also by just bending over a bench, with one knee on the bench and the arm on the same side as the knee pressed against the bench as well, and pulling up to your chest a dumbbell with the opposite arm, going up and down.
Yes, that is very good for the back, which I also need.
I do the push ups, dumb bell bench presses, a squat clean and press with dumbbells and the bent rows. Thats about all I can get done. It does make a difference, but I amnot shooting anymore 70lb bows.
I am wanting to make a training bow to pull, ideally it will be a max draw weight of just over 70 lbs. The real best bow training exercise is pulling a heavy bow. But it wont be a 90+ pounder.
