Bamboo belly - predicting draw weight
- Hello!
this is a maple core I did 3-4 years ago. I want to finish it but I wish I use bamboo instead of horn. I aim light draw weight - no more than 35 lbs. My question is: what should be approximately the thickness of the individual components (bamboo / maple / sinews)? core is 38 mm wide.
James Parker (Robustus) is a pro in bamboo bowyery.
He use heat treated boo on the belly side.
Think the same size like the horn would be, about 5 mm.
I would use just two layer sinew and thin core if like low draw weight.

It looks like you can use 2 piece of bamboo, so that no nodes will be in bending parts. At least that is what I would try to... providing you can your hands on such bamboo.
Bamboo outer layer is a LOT of stiffer that horn.
Unfortunately I cannot help you with measurements.

- I will use this bamboo. segments are 42 cm long. I think that's enough
Make sure you read Dale Yessak's article on his experience building this type of bow.
for my regret I have not heard about this article
Could it be this? Markus.

Not surprisingly, that is the article.
- and so ... I did experience with bamboo belly - unfortunately unsuccessful. before gluing, one bamboo strip split lengthwise. eventually made horn belly. also change siyahs. joined with the new V splice. so it seems the bow after the third layer sinews.
