horn sources in germany

hi,

does anyone have any idea where I can get in germany adequate hornmaterial for turkish bows?

it would be great if the source did not charge an arm and a leg. I have found some orynx antelope horns quite expensive and have no idea if they are good enough.

couple of months ago I bought some white longhorns and they proved to be unusable after cutting them up. first because they are twisted ans secondly because they splinter and are layered.

hi, contact Martin Hyslop, [email protected].
Great waterbuffalo horn, Martin lives in Scotland. He knows what hornbowyers need. Good prices, quick delivery.

You live in germany than why don't you order it from www.dick.biz .
It is not porno site. Thay are in town Matten near austria and czech. Order a free catalog with 160 full color pages. My friend ordered one strip and he was pleased with recived piece.

thanx a lot to both of you. I am going to look into this in a day or two and let you know how it worked out.

Hi, don?t buy the horn-strips from the Dick Company.
This is a alluring offer, but most of these horns will break, cause they don?t know how to cut the horn the right way!

That is good thing to know. :)

I have gotten an offer to buy and test Ankole-cattle or Watussi-cattle horns.

has anyone worked with such horns before? is it worth trying to work with them?

Hi, I don?t know these Ankole-cattle horns but my experience with horns from watussis is very bad. To brittle, to thin, twisted.....................

I contacted Martin Hyslop, they have a very good supply of water buffalo horn and cater for the composite bow maker. They also sell cow horn and red deer sinew. I make quivers and I wanted to try using horn strip as a decorative border around the face of the quiver. Cow horn appears to be a more striking colour for this purpose and I am waiting for his reply whether cow horn is sold in strips also.
To view the products they sell visit www.highlandhorn.com there are many sizes of horn strip and the prices look very competitive.

These are quivers I made with a hardwood frame, designed to hold six arrows (ideal for club training nights when a full quiver is not necessary). The quiver incorporating a painting was my wife's idea, it turned out quite successful by laminating my watercolour.
