Hello Samuraiwarrior,

Whats up with your Bow ?
When you will finish, tillering and brace your bow ?

I put a lot of sinew on my bow.
In October i will make an expedition to West Papua Newguinea.
I am back in November, if some cannibals don?t eat me :?

Then i will finish my bow, scrap some sinew and horn.
Glue a peace of wood on the belly for a good handle.
Finish the nocks with some rawhide.
I want to cover the back of the bow also with rawhide.
I don?t use birchbark.

Greetings Wolf

It is coming along slowly, in 2 weeks I should get the first sinew layer on.
I am working on a core from Thomas Duvernay in Korea. I haven't had a whole lot of time to dedicate to just bow making, so it is coming along slowly.
It will probably be ready to brace by the new year.
I am going to finish mine with a birchbark covering. And probably a foam handle covered in suede. My nocks will have a thin leather covering.
I don't know if you should be scraping the sinew unless the bow has a really bad tiller.

Hello,

I mean the old one you made, or the first one.
The pictures that was in the forum, maybe a half year or more ago, with sinew, you did.

You don?t finish this bow ?

I see the new one (korean hornbowkit) from thomas at your page at (photopuket), but i don?t mean that one

That one didn't quite make it. I am kind of embarrassed to say, but I have had to remake my korean bow like 4 times. Each time it broke. The first time, the joint between the handle and the working limb broke the bamboo.
Second, The sinew started lifting off of the concave areas on the limb and recurve. The third one had the splice fail and the siyah broke out of the bow. And the most recent one had the horn come off. I started using clamps like Adam K. has and I probably squeezed too much glue out of the joint or the glue wasn't liquid and didn't make a good joint.
I have learned a lot, and had a lot of failures along the way. But I am finally ready to finish 1.
Have you made any other horn bows?

Hello,

That?s interesting.

I think that i also get some troubles when i begin to tillering and brace up this bow.

But i will see, it is alot of work,...burt i hope it works.

Yes i also want to make one or maybe 2 Korean Hornbows new.
Maybe first i try an turkish bow,...i will see.

The things, bamboo and horn, i have all.
I only must start working.

When i get home from west papua newguinea at middle of november, i start to finish and brace my korean bow.

I also have two 80 years old bows from papua newguinea.
And Arrows for pigs, fishes, birds and humans (cannibals).
They are made from Palmwood and bammboo sinew.
The arrows are made of Bamboo and very long, without feathers.

So then,
Keep on working and good luck with your Korean Bows.
It is the first Hornbow i make, and i make an korean.
Maybe it is better to start with an "easier" hornbow, like turkish.
An Korean Hornbow is very, very difficult to make and brace.

But we will see.

Do have some pictures from bracing your korean Bow.
You learned a lot you said, maybe it helps me a little bit.

Good luck.
Samuraiwarrior
Your bow definitly looks like better craftsmanship than my first few tries. I think if you take it slow to brace and tiller it, you shouldn't have any trouble.
I didn't get any pictures before the bows broke. But it is still such a rewarding experience to get that horn and sinew bending for the first time.
