Korean History Students Enjoying the Bow

Today, for the third semester in a row, I took my Korean history students out to shoot some arrows. As always, they had a great time. Many of them stayed after class to fling some more. Tomorrow, a group of students plan to meet to fling some more and discuss forming an archery club.
I put up a web album: http://www.koreanarchery.org/spring07archery/

The pics are nice, although I tended to have a goofy look on my face at times (what else is new?).

That must have been great experience indeed.
(And you look very excited, Mr. Duvernay!)

However, a group of students shooting with only mediterranean draw seemed a bit sad to me.

(It also reminded me of numerous Korean historical dramas, in which we can see Korean soldiers shooting like English Longbowmen.)

Sinsigel,

You teach with what you have available at the time (and with the time you have). In order to teach thumb ring shooting to forty students, I would need a tremendous supply of different sized rings, plus a lot more time than 75 minutes (my class period). I intend to fix both situations, as I am starting an archery club here on campus. I will emphasize thumb ring shooting, although people can shoot fingers if they wish. Interestingly, some students were really fascinated by thumb ring shooting, after I gave them a demonstration, with one student insisting on trying one; I only had rings too big for him, so it will have to wait.

Jiao,

It was just me and the student(s). Also, I only held it for them for the first shot; after that, they were on their own.
